BISP and Sindh Government Enhance Coordination for Transparent Social Protection Delivery

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Government of Sindh have agreed to strengthen institutional coordination to improve transparency, efficiency, and targeting in social protection delivery across the province.

Karachi: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Government of Sindh have agreed to strengthen institutional coordination to improve transparency, efficiency, and targeting in social protection delivery across the province. The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting in Karachi between BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The discussion focused on enhancing collaboration between federal and provincial systems to better serve vulnerable populations. Both sides emphasized the importance of data integration and real-time information sharing to ensure that social protection benefits reach the most deserving households. Plans were discussed to develop a joint digital dashboard, which would allow both governments to monitor programme performance, track beneficiaries, and improve transparency in disbursement mechanisms. Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted that stronger coordination would help reduce duplication, minimize leakages, and enhance the overall effectiveness of social protection programmes in Sindh. The initiative is also expected to improve evidence-based decision-making and strengthen accountability across institutions. The meeting further underscored the need to align provincial initiatives with federal programmes, particularly in the context of expanding coverage and improving service delivery at the grassroots level. Enhanced collaboration is expected to facilitate smoother implementation of BISP interventions, especially in underserved and disaster-prone areas of the province. This development marks an important step toward building a more integrated, transparent, and shock-responsive social protection system in Pakistan. By leveraging data, technology, and institutional coordination, BISP and the Sindh government aim to strengthen support mechanisms for vulnerable communities and improve resilience against economic and climate-related shocks.
