We Must Translate Discussions into Action for Tangible Social Protection Improvements – Johanna Knoess

Karachi (24 February 2025): The Second National Social Protection Conference builds upon the foundation laid at the First National Social Protection Conference in 2023. Ms Johanna Knoess, Head of Social Protection at GIZ, reflected on the key commitments made during the first conference and the progress achieved since then.

"The Bhurban Conference was my first exposure to Pakistan’s social protection landscape, and it was inspiring to see the level of commitment from all stakeholders. Today, as we gather here, we see even greater participation, with disaster management authorities, climate experts, and policymakers joining forces," she noted.

She outlined the main objectives set during the first conference, which continue to guide ongoing efforts:

✅ Strengthening coordination among stakeholders.

✅ Enhancing data-sharing mechanisms.

✅ Integrating social protection with disaster resilience and climate change adaptation.

Ms Knoess praised Pakistan’s high-level commitment to social protection, reaffirming Germany and GIZ's dedication to supporting Pakistan’s journey towards an inclusive and adaptive social protection system.

"We must continue translating discussions into action, ensuring that our collective efforts lead to tangible improvements in social protection for all," she concluded.
